The Fizz

Make unfamiliar futures easier to think about.

The Fizz takes concrete signals of change and uses generative AI to develop their consequences across everyday life, business, politics, technology and culture into possible worlds people can explore, question and react to.

From signals to worlds

Take change seriously.

The Fizz begins with a small number of concrete assumptions about the future and follows their consequences into a provisional world.

It then offers the user the option of exploring that world from different directions. What becomes normal in everyday life? Where does power move? What becomes valuable? Which technologies become invisible infrastructure? What new anxieties, rituals, language or conflicts appear?

The Fizz is powered by generative AI, but it is a tool for humans. It is specifically designed to encourage people to think more deeply about possible change. Generative AI will not create the future. Humans will.

Station Ward / hearing record

Plain-Language Appeal Hearing (Audio Transcript Excerpt)

Case: Skip permit, kitchen refit. Location: Station Ward. Date: Tuesday.

Recording live / 02:18

Clerk We’re on the record. Appellant, please confirm you’ve uploaded seven days of audio.

Appellant (Mr H. Lyle) Yes. Kitchen, two days’ work. I can’t keep living with the damp.

Councillor I will read the model’s reasons in plain language. The sandbox society ran your request against this week’s river position draft. It found: dusk noise increases bank stress where the old bridge narrows the flow. The eel counts are down. The otter proxy objected to “repeated metallic impact” within the 19:10–21:30 window.

Mr Lyle That’s not us. The quiet crew start at midday.

Councillor Your application listed a powered breaker, and your neighbour’s audio includes a breaker-like signature last Thursday at 20:03.

Mr Lyle That was my mate fixing the gate.

Councillor The proxy does not distinguish “gate” from “rubble”, only duration and pattern. The model offers a condition: hand tools only; rubble in sealed sacks; no loading after 18:45; and delivery deferred if the salmon forecast turns amber.

Mr Lyle So I can do it, but not like a normal person.

Councillor You may withdraw, amend, or proceed.
